my 61 project

After 2 years we are almost done. Its running and driving, we just need to get the interior finished. Of course there are things I am going to adjust/change when the weather changes and I can't drive it for the winter.
Thanks to the help here we have a really nice "driver" that handles great and stops really well.

brakes

Nice looking car, Bullyboy. I see that you have the 944 brake conversion. That is the same setup I am going to install on my 72 Super. Can you give me some more info on the brakes and wheel/tire size. Did you use the 944NA MC? Did you have any problems with brake bias or did you use a propotioning valve? I suppose tire size would be a factor. I am using 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear. I am waiting to get my re-machined parts back from Lanner @ VDub Engineering, so any info you can give me would be helpful Thanks, Eric.

Hi,
how do you find the exhaust system? Loud, ok? and does it need to come off to check valve clearances?

944m/c, no proportioning valve. Rear brakes on the front of the m/c and front on the rear. Tires are 195/55-15 and 225/65-15 I still have room for more tire under the CCC 1.1/4" widened rears.

The A1 exhaust is a work of art
Fit and finish is awesome. Sounds like a stocker with a growl at cruising speeds. Then it really roars when you get on it. I drove it past some friends the other day at WOT and they said it was pretty quiet. I like it much better than the merged S&S with fatboy I borrowed to break-in the motor.

Valves are no sweat.

Did someone say powder coat?

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...a/e92060f4.jpg

The wheels are decent but they are far from perfect. They were stripped, blasted, and a coat of Eastwoods single stage almost chrome.

Dorinda kept bugging me there were too many colors. Compaired to her 73 Super she had flat black, gloss black, and mirror black (yawn)

Looks cool.

I'm currently running a merged 1 5/8 which had a fatboy (now an offest 2 1/2" muffler) and the noise is really getting to me after 3-4months as a daily driver. Plus having the car on it's guts doesn't help either...

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated :agree:

mccarthy500 October 11th 2007 22:21

what kind of bump stop did you use on the 944 rear arms?

Bullyboy October 11th 2007 23:30

drilled and tapped the arm and then used the urethane bump stops
