Looking for transmission direction (n00b)

I've been driving my bug for quite a bit now, and it's obvious I need a 5th gear.

I'm not making huge power (app. 150 out of a stock Sube EJ25), but I'm sure the torque and my lead foot will kill the stock T1 tranny.

I also want to flip the mount to move the tranny/engine forward.

I've read about the 901/915/930 boxes and frankly, I'm overwhelmed and confused. I also looked into Rancho / Berg transmissions.

I'm looking for a 5 spd that can handle the current power, and future power upgrades. I'd like an LSD, although I think that might be too much $$$.

What are my options ? Where should I start ?

Any input is appreciated (links / write ups / etc).

Thanks,

Rob.

Rob,

Since I have driven a subaru powered bug with 2.2 vs your 2.5 lt, I can atest that the 914 gearbox, is nicely geared for your car.

The conversion utilizing this box is not that difficult, and can accommodate a Quaife or other LSD.

The rebuild is not that difficult either.. and can handle more power if you decide to put cams, piggy-back ecu and some porting to get about 190-200 HP..

Also you can fab your own conversion, use some of our parts to help, or utilize the entire kit, and take a lot of the guess work out.

Also the our kit, (just a data point) moves the gearbox slightly fwd, and enables good clearance out back for the motor..

Food for thougth
Alex
