915 rear mount questions

Hello,

Has anybody fabbed up their own rear mount for a 915 into a beetle chassis ? I was planning on using the mount from bugat5speed but after looking closely at the design, I will not have enough room on the starter side as that is where my turbo inlet sits.

I am currently using a stock beetle rear mount with the red urethane rear beetle peices on my 914 gearbox and I had to slightly shave the rear metal mount to get enough clearance for the turbo inlet.

I am thinking of using the same setup for the 915 as my measurements between the input shafts on the 915 and 914 gearboxes are the same. The only issue is that no flat spots exist on the 915 in the bellhousing area, and that area looks a little thin for bolts. I'm pretty sure the bolts will interfere with the flywheel as well.

I have an idea that might work but will need some aluminum machining and use the lower 2 engine carrier holes to secure the gearbox.

Any ideas on a simpler solution ?

Thanks

Sandeep

Syan,

I just sent you a reply.. but after reading this post, I do have another suggestion for you to look at.

Prior to the newer 915 mount that we make, Martin use to sell the older style that works on the 914 but also can be made to work with the 901 or 915.. As you allueded there are no flat spots, so you either weld some alum blocks or bolt them to the bell-housing..

I am a little too tired to host so I will attach them.. I can send them to you tomorrow if you would like.. I spent the better part of the day working my chasis, and betting by dummy box fitted.. Darn mechanic is taking to long..

Let me know what you think

Thanks for the pics Alex. I think that mount might work. I sent you an email asking for the aluminum blocks separately before I saw this post but please give me a price on the old style mount.

I will send you an email as well.

Thanks

I made my own as well...:

Difficult to see maybe, but I filed a recess in the case to flush mount the steel plate underneath. I attached the OEM HD type 1 rubber tranny mountings to that.
This way, the tranny is not so high mounted as with the above solution.

It did keep a 220 hp 2,7 steady even with dragracing it :)

Yes Wally. That is a very nice picture .. so nice that I used it for the basis of my design (your existing design) :D

I am actually mocking it up this week with my old 901 rear mount.

One question .. I have the 100mm output shafts as well. Obviously you have enough clearance at the frame horns for the CV's, but just wanted to check.

I have the original front mount as well and will be shortening it ... you probably have that accomplished as well :)

Thanks for making that picture available.

Your welcome :)

Actually, I have lengthenend it, so it resides nicely under the trailing arm boxes, where i mounted it with Wevo bushings. Nice thing aout the original bar is that you can get these extremely good bushings for it :D

Smart choice on the tranny with the 100mm output flanges!

915 tranny mount

Hi Sandeep:

Just checking out some of the info and pictures, the above photo
showing the mounting bar for the 915; I have one in my shop piled
with some junk to throw into the dumpster, is it of any use to you
in fabricating a mount ? Let me know if interested, your for free !
