I had my local Chartered Precision Engineer have his Coded Welder weld the holes up after reaming the rust out.

The new hole centres were then determined by the relief of the area.

And the stock late '03 stub-axle is the perfect gauge for a one-off hole alignment Jig.

Over a year on, I'm yet to produce ultrasound scanned images of the modified lugs, due to the obvious inconveniance this would cause. I can so I will. At some point. It's only 70 miles away and loss of front wheel alignment for a week or so

In a destructive test, I'm 99%% confident that the strut (any I've seen so far) will suffer a ductile failure, long before the M10 VW Golf bolts shear or my welded/drilled/reamed:silly: '86 944T stub-axles suffer a more brittle fracture, common to welded forgings, or castings for that matter.

Metallurgy and fracture mechanics are MY subject
