Hi there.
I also have a 1303 superbeetle, and have done the exact mods you talk of.
I welded up the vents beneath the windscreen, smoothed and painted it.
I use an eberspacher lorry cab heater in my spare wheel well that is plumbed into the fresh air box. This demists the front windscreen really well
