J/Sport Bug front suspension mods

I was checking out the pics of the J/Sport super beetle in Japan, and noticed the suspension modifcations to the front. The swaybar set up has been modified(is connected from the bar to the track arms via, what looks like some "ball & socket" connectors [<---correct term to use???]), and some extra "rods", are coming off the track control arms, and look as though they connect to the frame head itself. Any explanations to how these mods are executed?? What are the key benfits to such mods, and would something like this be necessary only to a racing vehicle, our would even a street car benfits from such mods????
