Big lug on alternator gets battery positive all the time, little spade terminal goes to warning light, other side of warning light gets system voltage with the key on.

It's a one wire alternator, which means that it doesn't need 12 volts applied to the field coils to magnetize them. Once they start spinning, and cutting lines of magnetic flux, they will magnetize themselves.
