Apparently Air-Ride has made some great improvements in the air spring technology department. Praxis is also going that way. I think it won't be too long before air springs are considered performance items. Imagine a road race car that can lower itself to almost nothing on the straight aways then jack up a bit for the corners to hit the curbs, maybe GPS controlled. Currently though, I think the air bags are not to that level for aircooled VWs, as well, the bags on the struts take up a lot of room, so you'd be running really with narrow tires or wide fenders to use wider tires.
