you MUST run a dino-based oil for at least the first 5K miles to make sure that the rings seat correctly. On initial startup with those temps I would run a good quality NON-SYNTHETIC 10w-30. When I got my new motor, the builder (who is highly respected in the area) reccomended that on initial startup to run the motor between 2-3K RPM for 20 minutes to break in the cam and lifters. He also advised to allow a 5 minute warm up every time i drove the car for the first 5K miles.
Before Startup:
- I would reccomend a valvoline or Shell Rotella type oil.
- Try and set the timing before fire up, (~30deg @full advance/ ~7deg. BTDC static)
- remember to adjust the valves before startup (if the builder didn't)
@ 500 miles
- Re-torque the heads, and change the oil (check for abnormal shavings in oil), Re-adjust valves.
