A stock 914 2.0L puts out 95hp and 108 ft lbs of torque at 4500 rpms. This is with the FI and stock cam which is set up for emissions too.
A different cam, compression boost and carbs can wake up a 2.0L as can FI tuning, p&p the heads, etc. Mine puts out 95hp & 110ft lbs at the rear wheels (dynoed) so that's about 110hp./125ftlbs at the engine. The torque on a 914 2.L comes on at 2500rpms and is flat until 4500 so thats a lot of torque. My peak hp is a 5000 rpms.

How does that compare to a 1776 type 1 motor? Depends of the engine! Cam, carbs, compression all play a huge role so .....A standard 1776 makes 85hp or so, maybe a wildly built one make 100 hp. Can't remember the torque curves....
I know of a 1800 type 4 thats makes 180hp at 7500 rpms, now that is a screamer.
