I agree, Porsche did nothing to protect the alloy finish. I have also cleaned mine up and they look good. I reckon the best finish has got to be hard anodizing which should survive the hostile environment under the car. I think that I would rather occasionally wire wool the oxides off than trusting any paint finish or fork out for anodising. Besides the greasy handling they have had affords some protection.

The corrosion around some of the alloy fixings does raise a few questions as to the suitablilty of alloy in our salt infested environment.
