Hood Pins...Where to place them?
Some of you may have read my insane rant on the 1303 hood hinge fiasco...
I now need to plac some hood pins at the window side of my bug to keep the damn thing on and to keep my paint from falling apart. So what is the best way to mount these bad boys. |

I had a similar problem on my bug. The hood flew up and busted the hinges and i couldnt repair it to work right again with new hinges. so i put hood pins.
here are some pics (please exuse the nasty trunk..these pics are 3 years old) i made some mounting brackets for the pins out of raw steel. then drilled holes into the trunk liner lip. here are the Sparco sliding hood pins i used heres how the hood comes off now. Hope this helps...sorry i didnt see the post sooner

Later is better than not at all.
That's ok. I ended up putting them in pretty much the same place you did except I didn't end up using welded plates. I have them bolted up along the gutter where you put your plates. I have my old hood latches up front.
The way I have the latches and pins set up is actually pretty cool and the pin plates are running more horizontal with the window than the angle you have them at. I'll try to get pics up soon. It's nice to see other people wit a similar set up. I wasn't sure if I was just beinf weird w/ my idea. I'd seen them on racers, but not on any street bugs up front. Your car looks awsome by the way. Thanks again, G.Sainz |
