best Brembo calipers?
Found this on ebay
it's an 8 pod caliper,PISTON SIZES: 2 pistons are 1.38" and 2 pistons are 1.53", per side (4 per side, 8 per caliper total) I've seen some 12 pod calipers from Tarox but can't find any from Brembo. Might consider this one for my bug (just to make really sure it stops insanely hard ![]() I currently have a 6 pod Tarox caliper up front but might be putting that in the rear and upgrade to a bigger on up front |

I've seen those on there....the guy has like 17,453,868,234,234 auctions of those listed under ferrari, porsche, lambo, etc. I was thinking of getting those, but if you look at the auction, it's calipers only...$1600 and all you get is two calipers, no discs, no adaptor plates, nothing....no thanks.
$1600 gets me all 4 944T brakes and stopping will better than everything on the road. Anything over 4-pot is insane for our cars, and in the rain, is definitly a hazard. I've learned my lesson with overkill brakes on a light car. I had an Integra Big brake package (small Brembo 4 pots) on my 91 Civic Hatchback. On the dry, OUTSTANDING braking, in the wet, the tires would lock up with almost no effort....that's the negative side of good brakes that nobody ever thinks about. I sure as hell didn't.....and it almost gotten me in a ton of accidents from hydroplaning from trying to stop..... |

After talking to a Mercedes technician that lives in my street these 8 pod calipers seem overkill. A very wide and soft tire would be necessary for grip (track slicks) and indeed on a rainy day wheels will lock up (I alreay have that problem with my 6 pod Tarox calipers).
Think I'l try to put the 944T discs on the tarox pods up front and 944T discs+calipers in the back with maybe a brake servo (or how is it called in English) and see how that works. Wheel size wouldn't be a problem as I'll be going for at least 17", propably 18" wheels under widened fenders. |

Don't forget about speedo error with those big *** wheels being alot larger diameter than OEM. Also, you're gonna need a nice motor to turn all that weight of disc, wheel, and tire. 18's with tires aren't light, especially with those huge *** discs.
993 or 944T(what I'm running..well err, what's waiting to get put on, LOL) are the perfect size and give the best dollar to performance ratio IMO. And even still the 993 is SOMEWHAT overkill. But I'de run them... Large tires to say the least to keep your tires planted, even when dry. I would think they'de lock considering the car is so light and the braking surface/radius is so huge, not enough friction/weight on the road to keep them from locking... But they're definitly sick. I wouldn't mind having a set on a second car that was nothing more than a trailer bitch though...bragging rights of course ![]() |

Hi
I reckon the monoblocks from the Boxster are good value and don’t need excessively wide rotors, so you save on weight there. As for tyre diameter 18s with the right tyre will not be much taller than a stock 15 inch. A 165/80 series x 15 is 645mm, a 225/45 x 18 is 658 mm. I used 215/40 17s on the front of my bug which were only 606 mm in diameter. Steve
