Flipping the front swaybar?!

Has anyone done this sort of thing (succesfully) on a balljoint front end? I am going lower in the front on my '68 standard beetle and heard that the sway bar can be flipped to sit on top of the lower arms instead of the bottom for better ground clearance. I currently have a 3/4" (20mm) bar and it is installed on the bottom. Are there any tricks or different mounts that are needed to do this?...I started fitting the bar but it won't clear the nut that holds the arm to the beam on the drivers side, the pass side will fit cuz the nut is on the bottom. Don't know if it makes any difference, I have the BugPack sway bar with urethane bushings.
Thanks

i got the same bar as you and mounted it upside down on top.. works fine.. problem you have is that those urethane mounts suck! they are too thin where they mount to the arm so the bar sits tooo close to that nut... its better to get some genuine rubbers and drill them out to 3/4" and use them instead.. they fit much better and actually make the bar more secure...

You mean to get the original rubbers? I'll see if someone I know has a set of old ones just for fitment.
Thanks

Peter,

I did this mod to my bug. I got the swaybar from Alex and I think its a lowered one. I can say the urethane sucks and next summer I will probably be running one of Oliver Knuf's swaybars .. its a really nicely engineered item and it looks like it works.

You can check out the install of the lowered bar at our next Boxer AG meet on June 11th.
