Which type of plating for parts?
Recently I had some parts plated, and currently not to content with the scratch resistance of the yellow zinc plating I received.
Since no mil or auto specs were cited as specifications, I am at fault since I did not make it a requirement.. They did a good job on cleaning, and plating, you can see the what I mean. Unfortunately, its just the plating they used, which we will call Zinc Yellow For those in the know, or with experience was there as specific mil spec or auto grade plating that I should have sited. Usually parts are shiny and more scratch resistant that the satin/full finish that these parts received. Are there differnet types of Zinc plating? Is Gold Iridate plating the same? Can the parts be replated over the existing plating? What about build up or can it be easily stripped? I will head over later in the week to talk to them and see what they can do for me, but want to make sure I get smarter before I go.. Any info appreciated, as I am at a cross road.. Don't want to deal with powercoating or painting and don't want to do final assembly as during preassembly my wrenches were scratchin the surface of the bolts and I would like to do it right this time around.. Hi
I used nickel plating on all suspension parts, door looks etc. It looks like chrome or shiney stainless, its pretty durable, I didn't specify thickness or anything, just told them what the parts were going to do. Steve this is a 944 bolt I had done
