spacers

Good morning to everyone,

Are spacers a bad way to go?

I know that adapters are really bad but are spacers the same? I would like to add width to my track and place a set of wider that currently fit (backside) rims onto my car and need to know where I can buy a 1 inch spacer if someone makes it? They are porsche pattern and would be on a vw drum?

Thanks for your input,
Bugjamin

I'm looking at spacers as well.
What I have found so far is that the H&R spacers are ridiculously (sp?) expensive.
However, the 'generic fit' spacers are crap, because you'll never get them located propely and as a result your wheels will be out of balance.

There's a guy in the Subaru club that I am meeting Saturday and he says he can make high quality spacers for me. I have to bring the wheel for him to take measurements. I'll keep you posted.

BTW, I'm running a custom boltpattern (4x100)

Rob.

We run 19mm spacers on Hummbug with no ill effects so far. It was the only way to get 17x9" Cup3's to stay away from what remains of the bump-stops.

Some 944's have a ~21mm spacer on the rear as standard. Have the longer studs from the same hub pressed into your drums?

I got mine from aftermarket, drilled the holes and pressed them in myself. I also made my own spacers.

The brakes are CB's Rear disk/ Roto-hub Conversion drilled 5x130.

if you are going to convert bolt pattern, i believe you end up in a two piece adapter most of the time. not ideal. i converted my drum pattern and then used a 5x130 to 5x130 spacer. got them here...

I have a set of 1" bolt-on style spacers on the back of my car. No problems at all. Just make sure they're of good quality. Unfortunatly, that often means high $. I paid something around $200 for mine, but they were also out of the Tweeks catalog, which can be a little expensive.

Anyway, as long as everything is put together correctly and you use good quality, you'll be OK.
