Make "sway away" type adjustable spirng plates from 944 units
Ok, so heres my deal.
I don't want to grind into my shock towers to use 944 adjustable spring plates. AND i dont want to spend 300+ bucks on some "sway away" style ones aswell. So i want to make some home made sway away ones using the 944 spring plates as a base. It looks like all i have to do it create a stop tab (mounted on the splined part/plate) and then crate a simalare style tab BUT with a threaded hole and a large adjuster screw mounted into it that would ride on the other tab. Example of a "sway away" style: BUT, my question is on how they are supost to work. I need to know if that adjuster screw just "hits" that tab or if it is mated into it some how. Thinking about it, i THINK that it just hits it and is not fixed with it becuase you would have a downward force (from the t-bars) and a upward force (from the wheels/gravity), those forces would keep the adjuster screw tight together with the tab i would think? But wanted to ask before i start making somthing. Thanks, Jonathan

You're right, the screw just pivots on the boss. Use a high grade, fine thread pitch set screw.

What's so bad about grinding the shock towers? By cutting the bolt head in half, you won't need to grind very much off the shock towers. I shortened the bolt head to 5mm thick then welded it to the backside of the long plate so I don't need wrench access to tighten it.

WHY WOULD YOU WELD IT? that would make the bolt "non-movable" and make the whole unit non-adjustable correct?
Even if i did grind away the towers (i dont want to) it would be so hard to get a tool up in between the tower and the spring plate. The 944 can get away with it becuase the bolts are more exposed (same as with a 911). thats just what i can see. maybe yours is different, i know the towers are a different shape from year to year.
