vw or porsche bearings?

Hey Guys, whats the opinion on weather to use vw or porsche bearings on the front of the car when using 944 hubs.

If you use 944 bearings, you shim the spindle with a steel collar.

If you use vw bearings, you shim the hub with an aluminum collar.

Looks to me like shiming the spindle might be easier. What do you guys think?

I used KDanie's method and shimmed the spindle so I could use the larger Porsche bearings with the 944 hub.

The larger bearings seem like the way to go, especially with the heavier wheels and tires that would go with this setup.

Also, if you bugger up the 944 hub, you don't have to remachine the new one to press in the collar, it just slips on.
