help on 2.0 type IV engine? Please
I have found an engine that has the 2.0 porsche heads, 3 intake studs, it also has a set of dual webers. The only marking I found on the Webers was F8 stambed on one of the bases.. Any way to tell or help me I.D. these carbs??
This engine was rebuilt " by current owner " a few years back and drove a small amount. He was going to put it in a Baja and realized it wasn't a bolt in affair. He put the engine in a shed were it has set since. I am interested in buying it but I have a few concerns. The manifolds are missing, One carb has been laying in the mud. I know all of this is a minor problem but, was the engine sitting on the ground, or on a thin layer of plastic a bad sign? Could it have drawn water into the crankase? The asking price is cheap, 350.00 possibly 300. Do you guys think it would be worth it?? It will turn over by hand, at least back and forth I know.. Is it worth 300 or 350 for the heads and carbs????? Sorry for the long wind, Thanks Drew23

depends on what you want the motor for...
it is probably a great candidate for a rebuild or if you want to part it out there is much more then $300 worth of parts to sell....

you could get that for the heads alone if they are in good shape.

I Dont know about it "drawing Water in to the engine" but the case can be corroed from sitting in water. If the heads look good they are worth the price.
You can then find a case if that one turns out to be bad. |

Thanks for the replies. I thought it would be worth it also. I was thinking of it as the internals and the block are junk. This may not be true but since I can't inspect them it is possible. But, I did think that the carbs and heads would be worth it.
The thing about the water is, I was told something such as an aluminum transmission would sweat, condense, draw in moisture, whatever through itself and could corrode what is on the inside. Just curious... How do I ID the carbs?????? Numbers, shape, what???? Thanks Guys. How much is an average on manifolds and a good linkage? Drew23
