Question about Porsche 901 Drive Flanges
I installed a 1969 Porsche 901 transmission into my 66' beetle that has the early 4 bolt drive flanges. I've already purchased the full 930 setup (Stub axles, cvs, axles) and was hoping that it was possible to swap late model 901 flanges (6 bolt) to an early transmssion. I believe this was discussed in the following thread but wanted to verify:

I think Martin (bug@5speed), or Alex (US rep) might be able to help. Martin has conversion flanges he manufactures, but I don't know if He has some for 930 cv's though. He might be able to tell you which stock ones can work.

Rio,
At this time we do not make 930 sized output flanges. If you needed T2/944 sized or type I flanges to mate to your CV's then I could help. I should talk to Martin, as this 930 sized flange is popping up more often. VR Alex

Don's Sport Vehicles in Redford, MI may be able to help. I was in there recently to say hello to one of my customers who works there and he showed me some of their converted output shafts and such.

There is a factory original output flange that accepts the 930 sized CV joints. I "think" it was for an early 70's 911 application?? These may be hard to find though, you'll have to do some poking around on the Porsche boards.
FWIW: That 930 CV is Massive - V8 size hardware! IIRC it's about a pound (each) heaver than the T1 CV. You'll never break it that's for sure! Alternately, you can have Todd Francis at Precision Alloy mate your output stub axles to his chromoly 930 flanges. http://www.precisionalloy.com He did a set for me (but for T2 flanges). Super nice work. Jeff |

I ran across an article on Aircooled.net that mentioned timeserting the two dowl holes in the stock flanges to make the 6-bolt pattern that I need for the 930CVs. Here is the article for those interested:
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/re...he5spdconv.htm I'll investigate this method along with the others suggested. Appreciate all of the responses! |

Hi
I've found that there are 2 types of 930 CV as well. The very thick ones which are about 40mm thick and a thinner one which is about as thick as a Kombi CV, these were used on BMWs, both had the same diameter. I have the thicker ones as my joints are going through about 15 degrees angle, but if you don't need the ability to cope with extra angle you could make a weight saving by using the thinner ones.
