Engine Choice

A few years ago when I first heard of "the German look" It was characterised by (among other things) a T4 engine. Maybe it was just highlighted in earlier articles because the T4 was more widely used in Europe than in the U.S. I'm refering to articles aimed at introducing the German look to the U.S. It seems now though that if you look through the "members rides" there are alot of T1s as well, not just in the states but in Europe too. Has this always been the case pretty much or has the T1 gained popularity in Europe in the past few years?

Just wondering,
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
I'am no expert for such a genaral question, but I guess that type 4's are still pretty expensive to build for a bug and that europeans are not wealthier than americans. Type1's are cheaper to start with and cheaper if you are not planning to go any further than, say 1800 cc. This hasn't changed over the years, though type 4 parts are more expensive now then about 5-10 years ago over here, so that might have something to do with it as well.
Greetings,
Walter
