Is bus box up to job ?
Hi, i'm currently doing a vwrx conversion in my 52 bug and am using a bus box... some people say these boxes cant handle rapid shifts is this true ?
If it is is there anyway of beefing this part up ? Reason weather to get the box rebuilt with a berg type 1 conversion nosecone or permanetly run the shift rod above the tunnel and run the handbrake some other way ..... make a bit of a feature of the shift rod (chrome it up a bit) split_trix |

The drag racing crowd, use bus boxes as an upgrade from a type 1 , i do know these are usually "built" boxes , if it shifts fast enough for a drag racer i would imagine it will be ok the road use.

Hi
The ratios aren't that good for a street car. When you change to custom ratios to make it streetable the gear sets suffer, they loose strength by way of not having enough teeth and tooth depth. They are certainly stronger than a Type 1 box. Steve

Berg's have just posted an ad on Samba for their Bus 5 Speed for bug and split bus. May be of interest. I know Doug has raced his prototype bus 5 for the last 2 years without incident. The big motor puts out over 300HP. Looks nice too!

If you have any questions on the Berg Bus 5 Speed either call Doug at Berg's, or Mike at Rancho (he's testing one in a street car).

Although Doug said Mike is testing a prototype in a street car, this is not true. Mike is waiting for a pre-production version to test.
