Class 11 roll cage.
What do you guys think of the weld in roll cages that are sold for baja cars for $160 dollars. They say they are class 11 and score approved whatever that means. The name of the brand that looks like it will best fit my car is "Chenowth"? The reason I want a cheaper weld in roll cage is that I have a modified fire wall and none of the bolt in cages will fit. I don't mind cutting up a $160 roll cage but I mind cutting up a $500 roll cage. I also want to weld in some front shock tower cross mounts like the yellow remmelle bug in the galleries to stiffen up the chassis. Any input would be helpfull.

How much weight does a roll cage add?????
I think I want a 10 or 12 point roll cage. A 4 point cage touches the chassis 4 times and a 6 point cage touches the chassis 6 times, am I correct?????

For a street style car, I think the "Class 11" cage is a bit too much. The cage has mounts for the top of the rear shocks built into it and doesn't follow the inside of the car very closely. In a Baja it looks right at home, in a car with a nice interior it would look rather crude.

As Jerry D said it wont look at home if you have a full interior in your car.
Also consider the different needs in these applications I mean in off road is easier to roll over so the cage must be thicker and have more suports in a circuit application u can use thiner tubes and in road application u can have less mounting points (due to supposed normal driving). but its all ur call at the end. Be very careful if you decide to cut some tubes off a weld in 11 point cage as it might reduce to overall rigidity of the cage. beetle1303, Chris

What I was originally thinking of doing was to add a cross brace from the front down tubes by the dash in a X pattern to the front shock mounts for rigidity like the remelle cars I have seen. I have been thinking of ditching the roll cage idea as it will divert my money and time from the rest of the project. I will only have a near stock 1600 or a near stock 2.0 type 4 so I won't need the roll cage and when I get more power I will add a NHRA approved bolt in roll cage.
