Silver GL teardrop mirrors

Hello all,

I'm hoping for your help on the following subject: does any body knows anything about the mounting plates of the teardrop mirrors on the silver GL (on the General gallery, with the Porsche body kit). Are they coming from an existing model or they are hand made? Any information would be very useful.

JIMP

Hi

I used mirrors from an Australian 70s Ford Falcon just like the one Mel Gibson drove in Mad Max/ Road Warrior on my bug. I cut the stock Ford mounting leg off, and glassed over the hole, then I got some stock Beetle mirrors, cut the mirror part off so that I was left with a stump, drilled and tapped it and bolted the Ford mirrors to the stumps, the mirrors use the stock VW mounting hole, no extra holes. Im sure you could do something similar with the Porsche mirrors.

My car with the Ford mirrors,

Steve C

Steve,
Your car is one fine piece of work. Everytime I see a picture of it, I find myself staring at it looking at all the details. Very nice job. I only wish you were a little closer so I could look at it in person.

Hello Steve C,
thanks a lot for the info. You have a very nice looking car. My problem is that I already have the teardrop mirrors, I would feel very sorry not to use them!

Hi

Jimp, I was trying to save holes in the body.

Thanks Randy & Silver bullet, the wheels are 17x8s & 17&9s.
