wheel adapters, phones on 1303

My first post, so I apoigize up front if I break any rules. The short & sweet version - 73 1303 stock drum brakes, 6j x 15et52.3 phones ( how am I doing on the jargon?) and I want to keep the drum brakes for now. I'm pretty sure I will need spacer to fit the wheels, so is there a problem using wheel adapters instead of porsche pattern brakes with spacers? I'm learning that some of the wide porsche spacers are basicly the same as adapters in that they first bolt to the brakes and then the wheels. Will I need to use tapered springs in front in addition to the adapter/spacers? how thick are the Empi wheel adapters and are they enough for this much off set? Any help would be much appreciated!!
