Drive shafts?

I have fitted an 901 dog leg box to an 1303. To finish off the conversion I was going to fit 944 ( 1985 - 86 ) ali A arms on the 03.
Checking up on the drive shaft dimensions, the 924 has two lengths (a) manual 411mm (b) auto 427mm. From what information I have the 181 and 944 are the same drive shaft. So are these two drive shafts the same length as the 924 manual 411mm.
Are the 944 turbo drive shafts any different to the 924 manual/auto drive shafts?
So what type of drive shaft is the most suitable? I know that I have to use 100mm CVJ with 33 splines off T4 ect.
Any advice would be apreciated. Thanks a lot

i can only speak for what i went through which was slightly different. i have late ali arms (but the early and late arms use the same length shaft on a bug with a T1 tranny), a T1 tranny and 90mm CVs inside (stock) and 100mm (Porsche/T181) on the outside. i needed/wanted the flexibility of mixed CVs so i had to go with 31 spline shafts (if memory serves correct). they are 21.5" in length. do a search for the original thread to confirm these numbers though. i am not sure if a p-car tranny changes the dimensions at all.

Thanks Zen for your advice it's appreciated. I know the 924 drive shafts are 16 1/4'' in length for manual and about 16 3/4'' approximately for auto.
There must be some one out there with this knowledge for my above sey up. Well the search goes on.

I used the same axles for early aluminum arms too :agree:

I got a 914/901 box with stock 914 output flanges with threaded dowel holes. My inner joints are stock Type I, and outer joints are stock 944S.

Yetibone you stated you used the same drive shafts for your conversion. I take you mean't you used the 924 drive shafts with the 901 box. Did I read this correct?
So you are saying the 924 drive shaft with the relavant CVJ will do the conversion over to the 944 Ali A arms.
Can you please clarify this matter for me.

Oops! I didn't elaborate much, did I?

My axles are from an '87 944S. They are almost 21.5" long, and have 33 splines on each end. Type I CV's will slide right on. Any 944S had aluminum arms, and thus the longer axles.

I don't think any 924 axles will work for this conversion, unless a 924S came with aluminum arms, which I genuinely don't know if they did.

One point that boygenius told me about is that axles from 924, and 944 Turbos may not work because although they are the right length, they are splined differently (28 splines, I think).

Veeman, be lookin' for an '87 and later 944S, or 944S2, with a manual transmission for your axles.
