944 N/A Brakes, Master Cylinder Decision
Couple of questions, it seems no one is around much to answer them these days?
1st A guy has listed an '87 and '88 N/A 944 that he can part out. Will these parts fit on my Super with the 17mm Kerscher balljoint? I will have the rears too, and will be buying those as well as the Kerscher e-brake adapters. 2nd Does anyone know where to get a blowup diagram of the 944 brake parts? Are there backing plates? I want to see the whole picture of every part so I know how it all goes together and interchanges. 3rd On the master cylinder, has anyone got a working setup going right now? What M/C are you using? It seems there is a lot of theorizing going on, with not too much action. I plan to have a working setup very soon. I plan on using the 944 or 911 M/C. Is the problem people are encountering is the fronts or backs locking up? Would a proportioning valve help this problem? Those seem easy enough to find. Thanks folks. Peace, -Ian |

1st - you want the 83-85 944 brakes, the later brakes have a different hub offset (that can be used but would require wider than stock fenders).
2nd - http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/944_parts/944_83-85.htm 3rd - the majority of people with 944 NA brakes on a Super have used the 944 NA mastercylinder with success. Quote:

I just mounted the brakelight switch in the 3rd remaining hole withjout adapter and it works fine and has enough room to sit there. Just mount the switch before you mount the m/c to the bulkhead. I have now reversed the front-rear brake lines. The 23mm cup is now for the rear. Contrairy to my beliefs and theory, this gives me a better balance now, as in that the rear is now giving more braking action, which before it didn't (front overbraking before). And trust me: I have driven on our Zandvoort circuit with it (hard!) and it doesn't lock anymore front or rear! ![]() Quote:

944 M/c
I used the 944 set up from MBT, I have 996 calipers at all four corners, works great.
