From my driving impressions of all three (WRX, STi, and a non-MR Evo) I like the Subarus more. They feel more comfortable around town, they are great at the track in stock trim and a blast to drive with a bigger rear sway bar and better tires, and Subaru has a better reliability/service record than the Evo. The horror stories about the Evo owners getting their warrenties revoked for entering their cars in track days and auto crosses is just painfull too.
In my area (Sierra Nevada moutains) Subarus are very popular and they make up the majority of the cars out at our local auto crosses. This all may be bias coming from a Subaru owner but I'm just telling it how it is (or how I see it
).
