Virtual Wind tunnel
Hi, I know there are a bunch of people on here interested in the aerodynamics of things. I found this simple program (I'm an engineer and think these things are neat) that takes a black and white jpeg file, and you input flow speeds, reynolds number, and wind tunnel height and it will give you a velocity plot and various pressure plots. Its based on pretty basic equations and we built programs like this in school but with the jpeg as an input it makes it way easier to test different shapes rather than having to reprogram. Check it out, its at http://www.equationsinmotion.org/downloads
I haven't done it yet but I thought it would be easy enough to take a view side profiles of a beetle and change a few things and see what happens. Its usefulness is somewhat limited because its only 2d but its fun to play with and gives a good idea of whats going on with the flow. Mike
