High output coils

I have a Jacobs bug pack on my T1. They say the computor "Taylors the spark" every zillosecond based on conditions in the combustion chamber. I really wonder what it does that doesn't happen naturally as Kadanie said.
Anyway I was just curious and still dont really have an answer as to why the jacobs, and MSD boxes seem so much more used on the T1 than the T4.
