I dont know man, see the 1303 lends itself more modern customization, if you follow? Adding early clasic styling such as 356 headlight grills to a late model beetle headlight to me would look kinda goofy and out of place, same with the dash.
Now a 914 look for the dash looks hot, as with the late mid 911 dashes as it is in the same era sort of. but any more modern custom style works best i think on a 1303. I dont know though, to me making a old style look new and fresh is great... but when it comes to making a late style look old, it ussualy looks wack. But to each his own, you are the person to decide on what you like and think is cool. this is just my opinion :agree: Just keep it clean eh. Later, Jonathan

Add some early fenders, chrome headlight covers/stone guards and maybe get an aluminum or chrome grill cover for the A/C intake in the front.???

sounds more hotrod than anything, but thats cool. Using early style fiberglass fenders would be a great option to use the 356 grills, for sure.

I'm probably going to go fairly modern over all, but very cleanly. As far as the lights..
Bright *** halo's all the way(gotta have good lights) A few things I like so far are pictured below. 356 dash 356 louvered grill I might loose the rear seat in favor of some big leathery looking storage box. It'll all be pretty subtle over all. I gotta say I still want to stay with the more modern rims though. They are simple and in keeping with a racing look. Shiny fuchs might be good..The fully polished 914 2litres are also very nice (like those a lot) |

Might want to use some flared fenders to help keep the car on the GL side of things. The look you are going after is right on the line between GL and retro classic and it could be interpeted either way if you are not carefull when selecting parts and upgrades for your car.

I think the older beetle bodystyles lend themselves to a "retro"-germanlook
check out my oval, 356 headlight grilled pop right in, replacing the headlight glass, decklid will be smoothed and recieve 356 decklid grilles for extra breathing.

nice car...
I'm not going to do anything with the "light grills"
Just more work than I feel like doing and probably going with modern light fixtures...look good on early bugs though. I am interested in how the deck lid breather boxes work from a 356 (spyder) to a bug though.I guess you mean the early porsche coupe's venting huh?. Aren't they kinda big? Doesn't the angle affect the way they work? What are the benefits if any or do they just look cool? I personally like them and I'd be interested to see how they work. I am trying to ditch any unneccessary chrome though so prob stay with out them on this project, but might use them later. So please explain if you can. Thanks. |

That's kind of what I went for - Retro-Germanlook.
Overrider fenders, some chrome trim, 17" turbo twists, two pot Brembos, banjo steering wheel, GWD shifter.........maybe kind of an odd mix of old and new.....but definitely GL. Dan |

plan is to use the doube grille from an apropriate year 356, makes it easier to graft in that the long narrow grille that many 356 use
