I have one of these it works very good even for larger bolts sizes

This link if or the aluminum insert version but if you look further they make a steel insert model as well

use the stock/factory clips, put them in the stock holes in the door, place some epoxy on the back of the clips, then align the panel into place.

once dried, the panel can be removed and replaced at ease just like the stock vw door panels.
doing it this way eliminates screw holes, giving a clean appearance.
this is how i did it, works perfectly. i hope this is useful.

This actually sounds like a REALY good idea! I am just wondering what you will do if a clip actually BROKE!? I suppose you can put a sander to it and sand it off flush with the panel, and then re-epoxy another one in place. So not bad at all!

all I did was Measure where each pin was and re-marked it on the back Side of them
then I was just going to take side cutter and cut off the back of the pin so it will sit Flat
and I'm just using super Steel epoxy from Lepage just got it at Crappy tire.
