Finally had time to take it apart. The bearing look pretty bad. A friend has a parts washer large enough to put the whole trans in, so it has been cleaned pretty well. The gear stack is setting in a bath of cleaning fluid. I can get a trans from a 1974 Porsche 914 for a good price. Can I put my nose cone on it and use it in my car? Also how hard is it to flip the ring and pinion? This is all new to me.

Junk yard,
Did you ever resolve your bearing issues. I have a spare box 902 early laying around with no gears, or shafts but with good bearings, let me know if you interested, and I can take some pics.. Also check this link on the flipping the diff. Do you have a late 901/911 box? http://www.germanlook.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=9153 If you still need more pics let me know Alex

No. But, I have not had time to work on it. My job keeps me very busy. I was at work 84 hours last week. Maybe next week.
My trans came from a 1968 911. I also have a trans from a 1973 914 which I hope to use the gears from. Ernie |

Been a while, but this past Saturday I pulled the gears out of the 914 trans. They are in great shape. It even had oil in it. Now it is all in the 911 case and ready to be put back in the car. Maybe in another four months I can get that done.
