My set-up sat on an original converted 914 2.0 engine and had a piece of engine tin around the crank pulley, probably to resemble the type 1 surround tin around the pulley for engine bay air sealing. So I strongly think it was meant to mount onto some extra tinware and seal the engine bay from hot air radiating from the exhaust. Hope you understand what I am trying to say..
