Hi Dean,
I don´t know anyone that makes a steel pulleys except Remmele that he uses with his 911 fan set up.Why do you want a steel pulley? Mark |

Good to hear from you. Well I was thinking that the extra weight would be better for balancing out the crank and flywheel. Please let me know. cheers Dean |

The German tuner that is going to balance my rotating assembly told me the same:if you're going to machine your own pulley(which I did)then make a steel one-the ass'y runs far smoother on the balancer.
For upright there are only aluminum ones that CSP sells that I know of. Regards,Arnoud

A steel pulley does dampen better and evens out a ceratin amount of harmonic vibrations.I personally believe it is not necessary if the flywheel, crank and pulley have been dynamically balanced together.

What size pulley?
Here in Osaka the the temp reach 35~7degrees and about 95humidity.
What size pulley should I run with my 11blade 911 fan( 2.0L engine). More stop than go driving here in Japan. Unfortunately! Advise appreciated Dean |

That, I believe, is why the clutch was knackered in my Japanese import when I got it!

You can almost guarantee it
Anyone running a ahnendorp pulley?(145mm) CSP?(I think is 125mm) is that too small? LAperformance has a 135mm ?? cheers Dean |

To return to the original question for a moment.....
For upright cooling (T1 fan?) can you not use an alloy T1 pulley but with the centre machined for the T4 fan hub. Is this not the DIY way? If so, could you not use a steel Berg pulley rather than a cheap alloy T1 pulley? |

Although I'm not aware on how the Cali conversion deals with it(it uses a machined out type 1 lower pulley-right?)the CSP conversion uses an 90mm top pulley to get more offset for the lower pulley.I bought the top pulley from CSP and machined the lower one myself because I wanted it in steel and smaller(in diameter). The CSP top pulley messes with the drive ratio,it makes the fan spin too fast(stock 1600 is 105mm,CSP top pulley 90mm).

Re: the top pulley.
I've seen one cali conversion where the (stock) top pulley is reversed to get the correct offset. By using a non oem top pulley the spot welded centre can be removed and welded to the other half, so reversing the pulley. It does mean the belt doesn't align with the alt bearing tho. |
