A hood hinge solution for your 1303!!

Ok...it's more of an idea...I mentioned it on the previous thread, but this should go into more detail so...I'll need feed back on what may or may not work or what has already been tried.

Was thinking od dremmeling out the nip-ends..the little tubular bits that the hinges attach to w/ the speed nuts and putting a threaded rod of the same diameter from the left to right side down the entire length of the space behind the wiring cover... I'd attach the hinges with nuts securing them on both sides of the mount on eithe side. The bottom spring would be treated similarly, but with only bolts (one per side) Maybe even a second rod from hinge to hinge across the length outside the wiring cover from elbow to elbow on the hinges to further strengthen the connection and assure a stable motion?

First Question...I haven't looked behind the cover yet (will check it out tomorrow) IS there even room for a thin rod?

YOUR MOVE!

do you mean replace the flat (prone to bending) bar inside the coil with a round rod?

oh, that would probabaly be a good idea. I had the one attatched to the back of the glove box area break off because of a bad hinge. P.I.T.A to weld it back.

Murphy's law

Well...the worst happened (not the worst)
pretty F**ked up though.

remember the pics of that pretty paint job w/ the sweet fix on the nasty crack the hood hinges made?
I attached the new hinges just like factory. 2 weeks later (today) I lifted the hood 2 inches...
TWO M***ER F****NG INCHES!!!! and sNaP!! CrAcK!!! I felt my heart sink into my stomach and I almost crapped myself in rage and disbelief.

same hinge pops and cracks the paint in the same place.
I could have seen it coming. Ah well...The paint guys said they'd fix it and install hood pins and not charge me too much and even offered to paint my GT grant steering wheel to match the car for free!

Nice guys. I also manage to reconnect the pedal assembly and the car started right up after sitting there for a month! nice...I have to say I love that little piece of S**T with all my heart. You just can't give up on your bug no matter what happens to it. It's like my little German mechanical child.

Man...I'm one sick boy.

I wasn't thrilled about adding hood pins, but I'd rather just avoid any more headaches with that hood.
