Looking for a how-to

Hey guys, Im a noob, but im learning.

I have just about finished my restoration of my 74 standard. Waiting for it to come home from paint, and then some resasembly and minor stuff to be done, and its finally drivable (been 3.5 years!)

My next step, once its on the road and functional, is to get a some more bump in the trunk. My tired old 1500cc single port is a bit sad. Its gonna do the job for now, but i want something a bit more. But nothing crazy.

im looking to get a 1600dp, and get it rebuilt so its fresh, and clean. Possibly stroker it. Time will tell. I just want a reliable, peppy engine. But I want to save some money, and learn a new talent, so I want to do the work myself.

Can anyone point me in the direction of an aircooled howto for rebuilding these engines? Specifically what to look for, avoid, etc etc.?

This guy has a really good site with engine rebuilding, valve jobs, and other usefull things: http://aircooledtech.com/

I bought the Bug Me video and set it up in my garage while rebuilding the motor. I thought it lacked some things though and would probably not use it again.

Depending on your peppyness factor and what parts you already own buying a 1776 or something already built from Chico Performance or Serrano, both can be found on http://www.thesamba.com , would probably be cheaper. I made up a spread sheet and found that I could not match the price of their 1776 motor if I was to buy the parts and build it myself.
