Backfiring

Took the bug for another spin today, the longest one sofar.
She handles pretty good with the Konis up front (thanks Alex).

However, whenever I get to a stoplight, she dies. If I start her up again she idles fine though.
Also, when I get off the throttle the engine backfires a lot, does this mean it's running too rich ? Could this also be the reason the engine dies when I stop ?

Any info is welcome,

Thanks,

Rob.

Rob,

I think you said you have a 1600cc SP. Does that come with a 34 PICT-3 ?

I had the same problems with my engine (type 4) and it worked out that the idle circuit was lean. I don't think you'd have the backfiring with a rich circuit. I'm just learning how the carbs work as well.

Do you have any vacuum leaks ? This could cause the idleing to be lean as well as air is getting into the mix.

Hope this helps in the meantime.

Sandeep

Also, look for exhaust leaks around the heads/j-pipes and at the collecter (assuming a header style exhaust system).
