Alternative Fuel Bugs?
I've been reading up on Bio-Diesel /aka...Vegetable oil.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make my beetle run off this crap? For pete's sake...the veggie oil is freakin free! (got a chinese buffet a block from my house) I've seen all the data on the WWII Beetle alternative fuels when the Nazi's were outa fuel and I was fascinated by VW engineers sheer resourcefulness. Those nuts had the same little 4 cylider engine running off of things as crazy hydrogen and veggie oils ....They even had a wood burning bug! I think it converted the oils made from the burning bits?? Anyway... IDEAS IDEAS!!! I'm running outa cash! |

Why not go with ethanol then? It's fuel made out of corn!!!!! But it's like normal fuel. You don't have to do any conversion to you car. Since it does not have any petrol in it, sould be less expenssive. Anyways, you won't make me shade a tear: you live in Texas: the only place else in the world the fuel is cheaper is Arabia!!! People in the States in general pay 40% less for the same gallon of fuel than us people in Canada, and do't get me started on the price of gaz in Europe: been there last summer and it was freekin' crazy!

I was wanting to do something with a E85 conversion or a 100% ethonal conversion. With E85 not to much would need to be done, just make sure tank is new and enamle coated and all seals ethanol compatible (fuel pump is most important.)
Ethanol runs cooler than gas so it would be great for us aircoolers in warmer climates (like me!!) |

I have had the idea floating around my head to put a giant solar panel/series of solar panels on the top of a bug and disguise it as a ragtop.. or at least graft them in by some sort of inconspicuous means. Durring the sunny days, it will recharge some honda style batteries to run an electric motor... so while you are at work, it will be charged to get you home.. not sure what you would do when a cloudy day arises... yeah, i thought that one up when it cost me 35 bucks to fill my bug up.

Is there anyway to make a bug run on diesel?
Just wondering. So many early engines ran on diesel I was wondering if there was anyway to get a bug engine to run on diesel? Or if anyone had heard of something similar along these lines?

I posed this question about a year ago on another site. I believe it was Jake who said it was not practical given the high compression ratio necessary with diesel.
I own a TDI in one of my cars and love it ... hence my inquiry. Too bad really. |

Corn dogs kill.
As for corn...did some research...
Takes as much regular fuel to produce the same amount of "corn" fuel. just plain stupid. Just another way for the poor exploited corn farmers to sell their corn. Just not practical. Anyone looked into a practical engine conversion? I keep seeing a few guys show off their amazing skills with converting form the Horizontal opposed 4 to modern vw 1.8 t's so there must be SOME way to use a TDI donor engine? |

I really think Hydrogen will be the only Real Cmbustion fuel alternative. With Use of Fixed magnets scientist have achieved close to Utonian Electrolosis. Just too many damn patents bought up by big oil and been sat on where the life was killed out of them. |
