Who's done a 901/Type 1? what flywheel?
Ok Who has done the 901 with a Type 1 engine? What flywheel did you use? I have a 901 that I want to install this winter. I have a 914 Starter and have heard and read that you can use the type 1 flywheel and a 914 starter. I have also read that a 912 flywheel is needed. Well a 912 flywheel will not bolt to a Type 1 crank. I would hate to get it in and hit the key and get rotation of the starter only.

Kennedy flywheel works great to adapt the T4 engine to the T1 trans.

From what I have read it should just bolt it. Some say you have to change the flywheel others say you don't. I read somewhere that "IF" you have a problem with starter to flywheel engagement you caould machine som metal off of either the transmission or the starter to move the starter and flywheel gears closer together.

Hello,
I've done it. The Type 1 is a straight bolt-on to the 901 and I also used a Type 1 starter. I sleeved the guide-tube so I could use a Type 1 release-bearing and re-routed the clutch-cable. I'll see if I have some pic's. If I do, I'll post 'm here. Cheers, Richard |

Very cool. Some pix woild be great. That 912 flywheel thing had me . I was hoping someone had been down this road before me. Maybe by Nov my wife will be working again and I can do the swap. I should just need to fab. a fwd mount and shift rod. I have a trans. (need to finish the build up), a 914 starter and a 914 shifter.

Hey Richie,
You didn't happen to run a hydraulic clutch with your 901 trans did you? If so - got any pics of the slave installation? Jeff |

Hello,
No hydraulics. Just the original cable with modified bracket and tube-exit from the chassis. Cheers, Richard |

Richie,
Can you elaborate on the Shift rod and shifter/plate that you used.. Looks like a good clean way.. What parts/source were used for your 901 tranny.. Looks like 911 shifter? Thanks ALex

Hello,
I used an original 901 shifter and shiftrod (lengtened 110mm and twisted) and fabricated my own console to mount the shifter. Had to butcher the tunnel though but it was a racer, soooo.... Parts source? Well, no one in particular and sometimes it's not what you know but who you know! For anyone who is interested, the car is for sale now, check it out at www.speedservice.nl. Sorry for the plug . Cheers, Richard Last edited by Richie; December 10th 2004 at 17:05. |
