Sweet ride ..
I have some questions. 1. What are you using for a header / exhaust ? 2. What about the external cooler ? Size ? Location ? Thats one killer looking engine. I love that color overall. I'm thinking of getting my car painted in 2004. Whats that color called ? Thanks Sandeep |

Can anyone educate me on what looks like an 'airbox' on this car? I'm referring to the box deal behind the fan. It's also connected to the carbs.
I see it a lot on the european GLs. What purpose does it serve? (besides looking cool) Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the air box is to 'quiet down' the noise from the carbs. My 44 IDF's sound pretty cool along with the 911 fan, but I guess after some time, you'd want to make it more quiet.
Thats my guess .. as long as it does not sound like those silly hondas breathing through PVC pipe. Sandeep |

Alex,
Yes, those are intake mufflers. Some country's have noise restriction laws for road legal driving with dual carbs... They are said to make almost no difference in power or maybe only 3 or 4 hp with 175hp engines. Big bore engines can make a lot of intake noise which gets very tiring with long trips and tese work very well. Our track at Zandvoort only allows 90 dB noise during normal hours, so then you must have s/thing like this. They cost a fortune compared to a set of ' stock' K&N filters though: around € 650-700. Today that's about $ 750 ! They look clean, but I would never buy them for looks only... Walter |
