Kafer-cup brace body mods

I am just currently replacing the suspension mount panel on my right rear inner wheel arch. This panel has a hole in it to help clear the shock mounting, but I will be using a kaffer cup brace also. Does any one have any pictures, or is able to descibe, of the body mods required to accomodate this part? It looks like I might have to cut down from the hole to the bottom (which I would have thought would weaken that area)..

on my home built bar i had to clearance a little around the hole on the body. not much... i think i did about 5mm or so to make mine fit.
But other bars may be different?

If you are worried about stiffness there you can cut two pieces and weld them around there one each side. Just make a template first in order to get the outline of the cut down area correct.

Hello Chris,

Who did you buy the kafer cup brace from is it the 5 or 3 bar setup. Also does the shifter bolt onto your chassis witout modifications, does the shifter have the original shift pattern or is it straight gated.

I bought it of GWD from the Volksworld show a few years ago. Its a three bar setup.

I have not fitted the shifter yet. It does bolt onto the existing bolts, but I have been told it really needs more support than just the two bolts. It retains the origional shift pattern, its not gated in any way (well there is a reverse lockout).

I will be using a five bar kafer cup brace. I thought that shifter had a straight gate shift. Oh! well i guess i am stuck with my hurst shifter.

well, we know tolerances can vary alot. i didn't have to cut nearly that off mine for my CSP brace. i just had to nick the small connector going across the bottom.

I think it would depend on the how you weld the mounts.
I have an early body on a 69' IRS pan with 944 aluminium rear arms.
Just a little extra grinding on the rear of the holes.

Thats an interesting picture. Your panel is much closer to the shock absorber, so your metal bracket is inside the panel. Mine is outside the panel. I am not sure why though..

I had to run a spacer between the shock and mount with the 944 aluminum arms to keep the shock vertical.
Yes those are the VDub Engineering bars. Top quality stuff

Its actually sitting on an old chassis. I have another all painted and ready to accept this body shell. Read more here.
