Can you elaborate on that a little? I just had a hell of a time putting these in my car, trying to get the correct torsion from where the stock torsion point was, and this looks like some kind of adjustable something or other....

These setup don't use the torsionbars any more.

correct. this obviously replaces the spring plate and the torsion bar is eliminated in the swap. the coilover you see in the shot is what takes all of the load now. really nice setup, but very pricey too.

Pure porn, thats what that is. Its a beatiful setup, and one I have dreamed of copying. Wouldn't be too difficult to make, but you need to find a threaded bearing that can take the stress and punishment..

Wow, Sick!!! But where do you get the coil over shock that matches a porsche 944 rear arm, and a bug top mount?? I'm also going watercooled, so I will need a slightly stiffer sping(??) |

You would probably have to research the shock by calling a couple of shock makers and telling them what you want. You would need to know how long the shock should be when compressed and the weight of the rear with engine installed. Also what ends you need or are willing to convert to (just because they don't make one with exactly the right ends doesn't mean you can't adapt) Look into the import scene to get some brand names and just call them up. All of my stuff is custom to my bus, the shocks would not work on stock arms because they are waaay to big in diameter, something else to consider when ordering.

panel, if your setup is ghetto, i know a bunch of people that want to live in that town.
another option, since i had a similar issue with shocks that needed to be bug on the top (12mm) and 951 on the bottom (14mm) was to pull the bottom bushing and had Lanner at VDub Customs (GL.com sponsor) fab a custom one for the bottom as a replacement. worked like a charm and was cheap to boot, even with international shipping.

Thanks Zen! I'm definately proud of it, especially 'cuz I did it but like any true gearnut, I would have loved for it to be made of billet and unobtanium and crossdrilled and lasercut and ultrarace looking...but at least most of it is chromoly and grade 8 or higher on the bolts.
Exactly my point about the shocks! Don't give up just because they don't have an exact factory bolt on. Figure out the important critieria (length, valving, spring rate) and then see what can be done to make them fit... with sooo many places available that will machine small parts nowdays, you could do something easier than you might think.
