just an idea
anyone thought of ever using a one peice front end? But off a ghia or a type III on a bug? This would open up the back side of the front fenders plus you can keep the front flat to the ground with out doing some work to front apron.
You'd cut the bug body from the front of the gas tank, pull the fenders and the hood off. Then make a front bracket like the dragsters do with one piece front ends. Mount the ghia/typeIII at the front mount and two smaller brackets at the hood corners and may be make the running boards play into the support. Get it? I know I'm dreaming hear, but might look cool. Plus it would have the diffusers in back of the front tires like on other high proformance cars. Rip

I think that idea would be best put to the test on photoshop before you get to far into it.
