What length coilovers to rear?
What lenght coilovers to put rear? I'd like to put fox coilovers to the rear, because i will have also mendeola front suspension. Rear is handled by 944 aluarms, kerscher 18mm swaybar etc.
Mendeola is offering fox coilovers that are 11.5"-15" collapsed/extended. Fox has almost similar coilovers at their webpage, 11.3"-16.4". http://www.foxracingshox.com/product...374&ref=filter What is stock IRS shock length, for reference point? I plan to lower the rear maximum 30-50mm, it is enough for me. |

Are you stock or lowered height? I can get a measurement on where mine sits (stock height).

Measure it when you have the whole lot assembled. the droop is contained by the ledge on the torsion bar casting and the compression will be controlled by the bump stop. Alternatively, ask Spax for the rear damper specs for their PSX or RSX kit for the 1303 re the open/closed length

Ok, i have to measure as EvilC said. Looks like 944 aluarms may need shorter shock, maybe.

I had measured before, but lost the info somehow... Shortening the bump stops is mandatory if you want any wheel travel when lowered.
Fully inbound they are very short because of that I remember. |

I have made adapters to 944 aluarms for using beetle urethane bumpstops..
First choice for coilovers is indeed fox, because mendeola kit at the front has also fox. To me using different brand shocks at back would be like using different brand tires at back But gotta try fox shocks before switching them to konis or bilsteins http://www.foxracingshox.com/subhome...oad&ref=topnav |

Just to recall that caliper bleeding vavle should be always up. (perhaps not the right caliper)

You have to swap a lot of Porsche calipers side to side as depending on front or rear of axle mounting affects differential calipers piston diameter position. I'm sure he just needs to swap over the pipe and nipples.

Thanks for noticing Those 944 turbo rear calipers are long gone and now i have 996 calipers to front and boxster calipers to back.
I know this is suspension section, so thats way at picture is also a rear swaybar |

Wonder if the shock point is at different height at 944 aluarm compared to bug/924 steel arm.
Also thinking about to made conversion bolts like these, almost like what paragon products is selling. Possibly using 12.9 bolts as blanks or 34CroNiMo6 bar. |

Those bolts are paramount I think (pun intended)!
I have been eying that site and their nice coil-overs for a lonnnnngggg time... |

I have spoken to Racers Edge about their adaptors and they did not reccommend them with the fox shocks. They are designed for a half inch wide heim joint, the fox shocks are more than an inch wide from memory. Too much leverage on the bolt in single shear.

Maybe its not needed long racers edge bolts like paragon products offers? Shorter might work with 944 aluarms. I noticed that QA1 promastar has less room at the bottom, thin part of the bottom at fox 2.0 is longer.
Above bolt can handle 600kg load, i tested it with solidworks and using 12.9 material. Last edited by -Alex-; April 18th 2012 at 07:51. |
