fender size and rim size
Need to buy some widder fenders for my 1303 1979 "vert" with 1986 944 Turbo suspension(alloy arms+brembo's) The rims are 7x17 et55 and 8.5 x 17 et50 with tyres 205/40/17 and 215/40/17. Can somebothy tell me what width of fender I need on the back. The problem is that I don't want to part from the alloy arms but also want a not to wide fenders in the back so maybe I should go with 7 x 17 on the back also? Does this make sense? Keep up the good job ans see you al at VW euro.

I have a similar setup to what you have. 17x7et55 wheels up front 205-40-17 and 17x8.5" wheel et50 with a 245-45-17 tire and a 1" spacer on 5x130 drums. I use a 1 1/4" wider fender, about 32mm. Believe it or not, that width fender brings the whole car into square, as the front fenders are wider than the rear on a Super Beetle. So, all 4 of my fenders are in line with eachother. You really have to look to notice that they are wider.
However, you could use 17x7 et55 wheels in the rear with the stock fenders, but I prefer the staggered setup. I just love big meats out back

What you have to take into consideration is that Stuart said he is running early 944 alloy arms and Porsche brakes so he is already about 2" wider then stock per side in the rear. And he would need at least 1" wider then stock fenders using a 7" wide rim. If he uses an 8.5" wide rim he will probably need 2-3" wider then stock fenders for the rear.

In that case, get 17x7's for the rear.
I don't know much about the 944 suspension upgrades, forguve me

Fender help ?
Hiya,
To keep this thread going, I thought I would ask for help as well. I'm trying to finish my wheel/tire/fender setup but need some info. First of all here is the problem : 18x10 et47 rears with 265/35, Porsche 930 309mmx28mm rear rotors and stock beetle trailing arms with stock fenders. As you can see, I need a 2" wide fender: 3" wider rears will make the wheel look "lost" in the fender and I don't want that. The question is, Is a 2" wide fender actually 2" wider ? I'm hoping the inside lip (under fender) with a wide fender can be shaved a bit if there is interference. The only makers of 2" wider rears that I know of are Bugpack and Glass Action (Act ?) I want the tire to "Just" tuck under so it looks like the fender "Just Barely" fits the tire. Thoughts ? Thanks. Sandeep |
