Building a firewall
I need to build a firewall that comes back further than the original because of the Subaru motor.
Initially I was thinking about using aluminium with the insulation / fire retardant (sp?) material that they use in engine bays on fiberglass boats. However, I'm not too sure which way to go. I want it to be a removable firewall, and the aluminium is quite flimsy... If I were to go with steel, what type of steel and how think of a plate should I use ? Thanks, Rob. |

Hi
I'm about to face the same issue. I've been thinking about making the sides out left over firewall material and joining each corner of the box with some 25 mm square tube, I would then make a removable hatch on the top for access. I thought about making the hatch out of an old Bay window bus engine cover & opening, but they are a bit wide. Steve

If you where to roll some beads into the alum sheet it would not be such a wet noodle. They are not cheap, but it might be worth it...JR
This would work, and is one of the cheaper prices I found.... Good luck http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36698 Last edited by jrinlv; March 11th 2007 at 00:04. |
