928 Limited Slip Diff in Bug gearbox? Possible?
Just saw LSD from 928 cheap in yellow pages, anyone knows is it possible to put it in the beetle gearbox?
Nobody talks about 928. Is that model so different comparing to 944? Thank's!

Automatic is Mercedes product, but manual is Porsche made.
So, do you know is it possible to use 928 limited slip diff in a Bug's gearbox? Do you have some techical drawings of 928 gearbox? Thank's in advance!

Sorry, no. Most of my attention is on the 901 series boxes.

I'm guessing from your sig that you have a 67 Bug, and it is swing axle.
A 928 diff is not even close to your swing axle diff. Why wouldn't you just get the proper VW diff? |

You haven't read it all. My Bug is 67', but it has 944 rear suspension so it's a IRS type. Done that allready

I'll save you some time. There isn't any diff on any other car in the world that is interchangeable with a Bug's diff.
If you want a LSD, just buy a Beetle LSD. |

The splines for the output flanges on a 928 are in the right place but the bigger/T2 size are they not? And centre is centre, we need to know more about what we can't see...
I think bigger bearings, bigger spider and bigger gerth.. 928 doesn't have the space constraint of the rear driveshaft above it. Which is probably common to early VW30 trans +/- a few mm. T1/T3 diff is a good choice Matt

My apologies MX67,
I think the 928 diff will be bigger in the centre. Matt

Why don't you post a pic of the 928 diff?

Because I don't have the picture. That is the point of the thread.
I have to buy a whole gearbox first, then strip it down, and then take a picture. Well, if I do that, i dont' have to ask. I'll see if it fits and in which conditions (machining, aligning... etc.) And if that LSD doesn't fit, I threw 300 euros away. No thanks! I've asked for the technical drawings, what do you think why? I appreciate Your concern about My problem. THX for that Bruce2!
