Multiple Oil filter Blow Outs
Need your help once again. Without having to drill and tap my sump, is there a oil pressure relief option for my 1915cc.
I have: Stock Oil Cooler Full Flow System Remote Oil Cooler Any help would be appreciated, my drive way and neighborhood streets can't take any more stains. Thanks |

Are you using a Fram HP1? Where is your filter located?

Using fram PH8A. Its located behind the rear drivers side tire.
I'm also running 30 oil Thanks for the response |

30 what? 10W-30, straight 30?
What is your oil pressure? Do you have stock oil pressure springs and plungers? Do they move freely in the case? Stop using Fram filters. Their filtering capability is inferior to all other brands. |

had a new filter dump it's oil at work this week, guess what. it was a fram
the filter face has bent and the rubber seal blew out the side |

you have a oil relif valve stuck or a major oil block in the case, ck the hoses for the right flow you know in -in out -out

Hi
I used to have customer cars with this issue, if they used locally made (to me) Ryco filters they would blow a few filters a year. I found using VW factory brand filters helped, like Mann & Kneckt (not sure about the spelling). Steve

Well I switched to a new filter with relief (K&N HP-3001) and switched oil to 20w-50.
As for the 30w I meant 40w and my mechanic has suggested I run that oil here in Florida. My engine was recently rebuilt, so as for the internals, there is alot of new parts , rings/gaskets, etc. The blow out happen on our first real cold snap. And from what I've read and asked 40w is not the best (to say the least) as 25-35 degree, morning start oil. Thanks for all your help. Any help is always appreciated. |

The oil pressure from the pump is not regulated untill it comes back to the case and hits the spring/piston. Cold start up oil pressure can be very high.
The K&N HP3001 has a burst rating of 600 psi and the seal is crimped into the case 360 deg. around the seal. Some filters just have a groove for the seal to sit in. I had problems with this on cold start up untill I changed to the K&N HP3001. Note the Mobil1 filter is made to the same spec. in the same plant. It just doesn't have the handy hex welded on the bottom. I have not had any issues since I changed to these filters.

Thanks for the response. I will keep an eye out for the Mobil1 filters on my next change. The K&N are a bit pricey in my parts. Thanks

this problem will be solved with an Oilpumpcover with pressure valve..
