Turbo
I am just stating to collect some bits tohgether for an eventual turbo conversion and was wanting some advice for a type 4 2.0
I already have a T3 charger spec below Features a 3" Inlet and 2" Outlet Features Wet Float Bearings 1/8 NPT Oil Inlet .50 A/R Compressor .63 A/R Turbine T3 Flant 5 Bolt Standard (.58) Down Pipe Flange Turbine Wheel: Exducer: 2.2", Inducer: 2.58" Compressor Wheel: Exducer: 3", Inducer: 2" I was wondering what sort of single carb would be good to use with this )using porche shroud on the engine, also what inlet manifold and exhaust manifiold... are they all custom made? who make them etc Any advice would be great Cheers Jim |

go with fuel injection. either CB performance or Mega squirt (are cheapest and most simple).
and post your turbo dimensions in mm not inches. |

cost is a main factor, carbs seem to be alot cheaper than EFI, unless someone can correct me?

How handy are you?
Its always a balance between your own capabilities and an already made system (anything other than megasquirt)... You could do suck through, but that would require even more experience with sidedraft carbs imo. Best to go to someone who has something similar running and ask the details there. In general EFI rocks but does cost some and even then you must do it all yourself. The rewards are high though. I made 270hp on a basically stock 2 liter type 4 But if all of the above is out of reach for you, you could probaly get more hp from a relatively simple increase in bore (103) and stay N/A. That could get you an easy 175 hp with the right heads and 44 IDF's. However don't get the misinterpretation that just turboing it give you an easy 200+ hp. 200+ hp is never easy nor cheap. Just more easy to attain with turbo then N/A, but costs about the same... unless you are a reaaaaally good/experienced wrench and use all used parts. Using used parts and tuning it right is however even more difficult and/or time consuming |

Cheers for the answers, i think i,m going to put the Turbo away for a while and stick some 44's on and run it like that for next 12 months with reccision looming.
What sort of power will a 2l type 4 with Eurorace e grind cam, 44's with full flow exhaust and 6AL ignition make... rouch idea's.. my old stroker made 104bhp at the wheels and was hoping for something similar... may have to ge some headwork done? |

S/th similar at the wheels is surely possible, but then you need at least some head work. With really good head work/exhaust a 5-10 hp more is possible too

Lets hope so...., not sure if any headwork has been done to be honest, have ordered a LAP exhaust, got a mallory CDI 6al box and the 44;s to go on so will see how it feels... any experts on Jetting here need some basline figures to get started
the carbs currently have f7 emulsion Tubes 135 mains 120 air correction jets thinking this is all going to be very wrong...! any suggestions would be great... Thanks for all the input Jim |

New 44'ers come with the right baseline jetting already, so don't worry. IIRC its s/ th like 135/190 with 36 vents and 55 idles.
